COFFEE WITH COLLEAGUES

IT'S EASY! SIMPLY HAVE A COFFEE WITH A COLLEAGUE AND SEE WHAT IDEAS TRANSPIRE!

Coffee with Colleagues offers staff/faculty the opportunity to meet for 30 minutes with a randomly selected colleague. The purpose of this initiative is to build meaningful connections with people and departments with whom you may not have day-to-day interactions. Below are some key points to consider:

  • Establishing rapport with other people/departments breaks down silos and encourages collaboration.
  • Sharing best practices could shed light on internal process improvements.
  • Personal connections across campus reduce barriers to the free flow of information and ideas.
Coffee with Colleagues is sponsored by Univeristy Experiential Learning.

FAQS

Answer

Coffee with Colleagues is an easy and efficient way for JHU employees to break down silos and establish rapport with various people/departments on campus. This is a chance to identify collaboration opportunities, learn about other departments, share best practices and form friendships!

All it takes is 30 minutes once a month. You can opt into and out of the program easily on a month-by-month basis.

Answer

This is completely up to the participants. Participants can structure the conversation in any way that is mutually satisfactory, but one possible outline is:

10 min: Person A introduces themselves, talks about how long they have been at JHU, and gives an overview of what their position involves
10 min: Person B repeats that information for themselves
10 min: Free-form Q&A

Answer

There is no pressure to achieve any particular takeaway in any one meeting. The goal is simply to establish connections with people/departments with which you would not typically interact.

Answer

The location is entirely up to the paired colleagues to decide and can be on or off-campus. While practicing social distancing, we recommend utilizing Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype, or even your telephone.

Answer

Yes. The cost is minimal and we hope it will not be a deterrent. Also, you certainly are not limited to coffee and could grab a water or tea.

Answer

Absolutely! However, you are not required to do so. Whether or not participants choose to meet again is entirely voluntary.
